Pizza and Burgers are DeathbedFood in Oz!
Pubs are actually called hotels over here in Oz. Recently, I visited one called The Royal Hotel in a place called Singleton in the famous wine producing region (The Hunter Valley) in the Australian state of New South Wales.
On this visit, we had pizza (with spicy chorizo, caramelised onion, red pepper, crispy potato skins and bbq sauce) and classic Aussie pub tucker (Aussie word) normally on the menu at pubs here – an Aussie “The Works” Burger (always with bacon, egg, beetroot and pineapple).
The Royal Hotel has typical Aussie pub grub in very large portions including veal or chicken parmigiana and beer battered chips; chicken schnitzel and chips; meat pie and of course a massive steak and chips. Another favourite is Surf & Turf, a BBQ steak with BBQ prawns on top.
And for dessert, you will always find ice cream on the menu as the Aussies are the BIGGEST consumers of ice cream per capita – more than any other country in the world including America!
