To Die For Duck Liver Mousse
The Little Door on W. 3rd Street has been around for over 18 years. That’s almost a Century in LA restaurant years. An oldie but very goodie. Finding DeathbedFood® there means they’re still firing on all burners.
The duck liver mousse with black truffle is, without a doubt, a Deathbed Appetizer. Of course, they had me at “truf”. Spellbound by truffles and a diagnosed Truffleholic, I salivate for the fungi day and night. Maybe because I’m a dog person and know our beloved canines hunt them down (60 Minutes said so). Or maybe its elite status with foodies has brainwashed me into joining Team Truffle. Or maybe just that when I eat them I’m convinced I won the Lotto and am having a Mai Tai with an umbrella on it, served to me by my housekeeper on my own island. Regardless, don’t we all agree cardboard would become a savory sensation with black truffles shaved on it?
Adding to the mousse’s magic was the accompanying poached pink lady apple. Believe me, that apple was every bit on par with the truffle action of the mousse.
So that I may personally guarantee full satisfaction, you should order the same meal I had:
- Appetizer: duck liver mousse (opined about above)
- Salad: baby lettuce with toasted macademia nut dressing (Deathbed Salad Dressing!)
- Entree: pistachio crusted lamb
- Dessert: chocolate pudding + salted caramel pot de creme (served regularly at their sister restaurant, Little Next Door. Deathbed Dessert!)
The Little Door is located at: 8164 West 3rd Street. Little Next Door is, well, next door. xoDBF
