You might not see an urban cowboy, but you will get a great burger deal at Gulp.
Gulp is one of my favorite gastropubs on the Westside. But not for the reasons touted on their website:
Whether you’re a Pico corridor local or just passing through, Gulp West LA Restaurant and Brew Pub wants to be your home away from home! A perfect place to stop off and wait out LA’s crazy evening rush hour, for a mid-day refuel, or to blow off some steam after a long day of work, Gulp West LA welcomes you with open arms. We offer comfortable space with a chef driven menu for beer lovers, cocktail sippers, wine aficionados, sports freaks, secret admirers, and urban cowboys.
Sure, sitting out the traffic on Pico is reason enough to stop there. But I have to question the “urban cowboys.” Who ARE they? I’m a regular and have never seen one patron with cowboy boots. And we all know that you’ll be waiting a long time to find a guy around these parts who even knows where a Pep Boys is – or what it is. Plus, Gulp often plays upbeat 80s-centric music from the likes of The Cure, Depeche Mode, A Flock of Seagulls and Blondie. Is it possible Urban cowboys flock to Blondie?
With no hope of seeing an urban cowboy, there is still one very strong reason to go to Gulp: the daily $13 Burger Special.
For $13, you get a burger, fries and a beer. And it’s a GREAT burger, fantastic fries and a choice of 35 beers on tap.
Order my usual for lunch – the burger (with avocado, egg, red onions, jalapeño) and pair it with a Duvel. Gulp charges extra for toppings like avocado so lunch will run you just under $20. DeathbedFood for lunch is more than worth that tab.
