Part 1 – The DeathbedFood Series: Jose Andres on Bourdain.
Jose Andres broke the news of Tony’s tragic passing to me.
On the morning of June 8th, I started the day as I start any other day – by scanning my Twitter feed. There at the top was this one:
I didn’t understand. My immediate thought was that Jose was paying his long-time friend a compliment of some sort. I was barely awake. And honestly, because I look up to Jose so much, I was thinking, “I wish Jose would tweet something like that about me.” Within seconds though, I started seeing more and more tweets pouring in about Bourdain, many from huge chefs and celebrities. To make sure this was real, I saw that Bourdain was trending. Then I realized. It was true. Anthony Bourdain was gone.
When I saw tweets like this, my heart broke, this is so hard:
I know from having personally tweeted back and forth with Jose that he himself manages his feed. I know this because of his broken English. I know this because I know this. Because of that, it breaks my heart to see Tony’s picture at the top of Jose’s feed. My thoughts and heart is with you Jose – and with all who miss Tony.
