I am not a pound cake purist. As with gin, I do not consume it neat. When made with my nana’s recipe and accessorized appropriately, pound cake is DeathbedFood.

My favorite configuration includes Straus Family Creamery organic vanilla ice cream and whip cream, Mrs. Richardson’s hot fudge, Stonewall Kitchen’s Dulce de Leche caramel sauce and diced walnuts. Only then does pound cake become DeathbedFood.
Of course, what’s DeathbedFood to one person (me) is not necessarily to another. My mom prefers hers “without all the fluff”.
Here’s my nana’s recipe. I recommend beating it for 10 minutes and baking it for about 80 minutes. Keep an eye on it and pull it out when you think it’s done.
