The Film

This documentary is about Ramon Resa, a farmworker boy who grew up to become a pediatrician. We hope audiences who see this film will be inspired to learn more about farm worker children and to help provide more opportunities to them for a better future.

Ramon Resa was abandoned by his parents and raised as one of 15 children in severe poverty, abuse and neglect. He spent his entire childhood working in the fields alongside the adults to support the large family who took him in.

When Ramon’s grade school teachers encouraged him to strive for more than farm work, he heard them. Their words sparked hope in him and Ramon decided to become a doctor. A lofty goal for any child, an impossible quest for a poor farmworker boy in Central Valley, California who had a speech impediment, severe bouts of depression and guardians who insisted he quit school to support them rather than go to college.

Those who read Ramon’s memoir “Out of the Fields” or attend one of his public speaking engagements are often brought to tears. They feel empowered to tackle their own life challenges with renewed confidence. Ramon’s message for everyone is, NEVER give up.

This documentary will be a tonic for a worldwide audience hungry for hope and empowerment. ~ Executive Producer Diane Wagner (me!)

Dr. Ramon Resa has been a practicing pediatrician in the Central Valley where he was raised for over 30 years. By serving in the same farm working community where he grew up, he provides a powerful role model and inspiration for the children from similar backgrounds to his own.

Distribution Opportunities

There are multiple distribution channels for the film, including theatrical, broadcast, cable and streaming in the domestic and international market. Other distribution opportunities include film licensing to organizations such as Latino or farm worker groups, educational foundations, civic organizations, charitable organizations and beyond.

Sponsorships, Tax-Deductible Donations and Investment Opportunities Now Available

Help share this truly inspirational story with mass audiences everywhere. We invite individuals and organizations passionate about Dr. Resa’s story to join us as a sponsor, donor or investor.

We intend to produce the film in time to enter it for consideration for the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. We encourage sponsors, donors and investors to act now in 2015 to ensure that we can meet the submission date deadline for this important film event.
