DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot | Shortbread

I made Ina Garten’s apple pie bars before but it took me all morning. Today I decided to save myself 3 hours of work and made only the crust. Vanilla, walnuts and cinnamon make it DeathbedFood. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot Broccolini

I say broccoli but Ina says broccolini. Since I’m cooking barefoot these days, I decided to acquiesce to her judgement and make the Broccolini with Balsamic Vinaigrette from her Barefoot Contessa at Home cookbook. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot | Basmati Rice

Basmati rice is my favorite rice probably because it is the rice used in Indian cuisine which is my favorite cuisine. So when I saw that Ina Garten has a Basmati rice recipe I had to try it. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot | Herb-Roasted Fish

Yesterday, I decided to make dinner with one of Ina’s beginner level recipes. I love fish and the Herb-Roasted Fish recipe from her Make It Ahead cookbook looked quick and easy. Looks can be deceiving. {Read more}

Halibut Rosemary is Classic DeathbedFood

I have a special affinity for Halibut Rosemary because I was introduced to it as a child by my dad’s gushing review. Over the years, my family developed our own recipe which is on par with any restaurant version we’ve had. {Read more}

Betty Crocker’s Snickerdoodles Kick My Butt

Betty Crocker’s snickerdoodles recipe kicked my butt this morning. I spent four hours making little dough balls and rolling them in cinnamon sugar. But it was worth every ounce of effort because I have a penchant for snickerdoodle cookies. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot | Mustard-Roasted Fish

I decided to make this dish because Ina says this recipe comes from her Parisian friend who’s a wonderful cook and that it only takes 10 minutes to make. Plus my mom wrote “Just wonderful!” next to it. {Read more}

Mom’s Meatloaf is DeathbedFood

My mom was a Bon Appetit fan for decades. The magazine published a meatloaf recipe from Ellen Larsen of Moss Point, Mississippi that my mom of course customized including using Paula Deen’s topping. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot | Broccoli

Barefoot says that broccoli rabe is an Italian vegetable that looks a little like American broccoli but is more bitter. I couldn’t find broccoli rabe so I used broccolini or baby broccoli. With olive oil and garlic, it’s a DeathbedFood side dish. {Read more}

Halibut is DeathbedFood

I have to have halibut whenever possible. Most of the time it’s hard to justify the cost but lately it’s been quite affordable – even Alaskan halibut which is the best. This was really easy to make: marinate in BRANDY first, sauté in olive oil, add caramelized shallots, salt and pepper. Serve on warmed romaine. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot: Chicken & Cheese

I was looking for something quick for this Monday night so I pulled out Ina’s Chicken with Goat Cheese & Basil recipe from her Barefoot Contessa at Home cookbook. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot | Chocolate Loaf Cake

I asked you on Twitter to tell me which Barefoot Contessa chocolate recipe I should make: the Bittersweet Chocolate Cake or her Triple Chocolate Loaf Cake. You tweeted me @DeathbedFood and voted for the latter so that’s what I baked today. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot | Penna Pasta

Because of my obsession with the Hamptons, I decided to make Barefoot Contessa’s Penna Alla Vecchia Bettola from her FOOLPROOF cookbook because it’s one of the iconic dishes made at Nick & Toni’s, one of the iconic restaurants in East Hampton. So it was a safe bet that it would be DeathbedFood. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot | Pea Soup

Since I just posted about The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook, I thought it fitting to make one of its recipes for supper. It’s a cloudy, borderline rainy day here so Parker’s Split Pea Soup stood out. Plus, Ina says that Steven Spielberg told her it tastes just like his mother’s, a telling sign that it’s DeathbedFood. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Bakes | Maui Banana Bread

While I can’t go to Maui right now due to the pandemic, I can make banana bread from one of the preeminent hotels there: the Hana-Maui Resort. It seems almost cliche to bake banana bread during the pandemic – at least it did at the beginning. But now I’m gonna bake it if I want to because a good one is DeathbedFood. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot | Cooking for Biden

If I had President Biden over for dinner, I’d pull out Barefoot Contessa’s “Cooking for Jeffrey” and make 2 recipes I know he’d love: Roasted Italian Meatballs and Pecan Rum Raisin Ice Cream. {Read more}

DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot for Kamala Harris

Kamala loves Roast Chicken. I’d make her Barefoot’s.

If I had the honor of hosting Vice President Kamala Harris for dinner, I know what I’d make: roasted chicken. That’s because Kamala loves it so much she has created her own signature recipe.   Because Vice President Harris prefers it crispy, I’d make her Barefoot’s Crispy Mustard-Roasted Chicken from the Barefoot Contessa FOOLPROOF Cookbook. {Read more}

~ DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot | Apple Pie Bars ~

For my latest “DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot” post, I made Ina’s Apple Pie Bars from her Cooking For Jeffrey cookbook. Ina says she was inspired by the apple pie bars she had at Oakville Grocery, the iconic Napa Valley specialty grocery store established in 1881. {Read more}

For my latest “DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot” post, I decided to make Ina’s Wild Mushroom Risotto from her Back to Basics cookbook. I had asked my Twitter followers what to make and risotto won. {Read more}

~~ DeathbedFood Cooks Barefoot | Brûlée Brownies ~~

I endeavored to make the Barefoot Contessa’s “Outrageous Brownies”. I say endeavored because some may say I failed by forgetting to add sugar. The good thing is that even when you screw up a Barefoot recipe, you still get DeathbedFood. {Read more}

Sloppy Joe’s are DeathbedFood.

Sloppy Joe’s was one of my favorite meals growing up. It’s no wonder because my mom had the best recipe. The other night, we pulled it out from the archives and had a DeathbedFood supper. {Read more}

Nana’s Pound Cake is DeathbedFood.

I am not a pound cake purist. As with gin, I do not consume it neat. When made with my nana’s recipe and accessorized appropriately, pound cake is DeathbedFood. {Read more}

Cock-a-Leekie Soup is DeathbedFood.

“Diane, would you like to make a cockamamie soup?” asked my mom the other day. At least that’s what I heard. Turns out she said “Cock-a-Leekie” but how would I know? I was in no mood for anything cockamamie but when my mom said it was leek-based, I committed to make the best darn Cock-a-Leekie soup she’d ever had. {Read more}

Extra Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies Are DeathbedFood.

I craved homemade chocolate chip cookies and grabbed a bag of Guittard Extra Dark Chocolate Chips. After following the simple recipe on the package and trying one of the Double Dark Chocolate Cookies still warm out of the oven, there it was. DeathbedFood. {Read more}

Shortbread: Barefoot Contessa’s DeathbedFood.

Every year I try to make at least one batch of special cookies for the holidays. This year I picked Barefoot Contessa‘s shortbread cookies from her “Barefoot Contessa Parties!” book. Ina says these are her all-time favorite cookie. That would make it one of her DeathbedFoods! {Read more}
