Discovering Boudin In New Orleans.
I thought “boudin” was French for bread. Understandable since Boudin Bakery is as prevalent in California as White Castle is in Jersey. Thanks to my trip to New Orleans and Stanley Restaurant for breakfast, I discovered what boudin really is: DeathbedFood.
Stanley’s has “House-Made Boudin” listed as a side option on its breakfast menu along with Smoked Bacon. I wondered why Stanley would have Boudin’s bread shipped all the way from California. It’s not that good. Rather than risk gluten gluttony, I decided to research. Scrolling past the first listing of Boudin Bakery, Google and Wikipedia gave me the skinny:
Boudin are various kinds of sausage in … Creole and Cajun cuisine.
You don’t need to visit NOLA to try boudin. Make it yourself with this recipe from Stanley and tweet me @DeathbedFood to let me know how you like it!
