If Sourabh Likes Gracias Madres, You Will Too
He books himself from morning through the wee hours of the morning, using his pre-trip spreadsheets to guide him through his breakfast, tea, shopping, lunch, brunch, hang out, cocktail, dinner, and late night options. I’ve been on the scene in LA but Manhattanite Sourabh has got it down cold.
That’s why I was under huge pressure to produce a winning, new spot. I scored with Gracias Madres in West Hollywood, the 100% organic, vegan Mexican restaurant.
I knew Sourabh would likely be happy since he’s a vegetarian but I had doubts about myself, a devout veganphobist. I swear on a stack of Barefoot Contessa cookbooks that even the most jerky-yearning, bacon-lusting, pork rind-craving, Porterhouse-pining carnivore will not complain at GM WeHo. In addition to Blue Plate Taco and Red O, the Westside is no longer barren of Mexican #DeathbedFood.
Meanwhile, if you crave a cocktail with your guac, this place has it all: mezcal, chocolate with tequila, and killer cocktail names like “Sorry Ms. Jamson” (apricot jam, habanero bitters and tempranillo) and “Matcha Do About Nothing” (ceremonial grade matcha, coconut milk).
Finally, their Seed Initiative project may reel you in. Since Mexican food is corn-centric, GM WeHo will be planting their own corn varieties at their Be Love Farm. Look for it on their menus this Fall.
Gracias Sourabh for once again helping me to learn what’s tasty in my city. Now, I’ve gotta run. I’m going back for that Matcha Do About Nothing to reconsider my veganphobist stance.
